Performance Data

Introduction

Each year, schools report key statutory assessment results. The main results are for the following year groups/assessments:
• Reception (EYFS)
• Year 1: Phonics Screening Check (PSC)
• Year 4: Multiplication Tables Check (MTC)
• Year 6: End of Key Stage 2 assessments.

Key acronyms:
• EXS = Pupils working at the expected standard.
• ARE = Pupils working at Age Related Expectation (this is the same as EXS).
• GD = Pupils working at greater depth within the expected standard.
• NYA = The data is not yet available because it has not been released yet.

‘Combined’ results are for pupils who achieve the standard in Reading, Writing and Maths. For the expected standard (ARE), this is pupils who achieve ARE or GD. For Greater Depth, this is for pupils who achieve GD in all three subjects.

Percentages are rounded down on official government statistics (regardless of the decimal), so these are rounded down too.

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) results

Pupils in Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) are assessed against 17 early learning goals throughout their time in Reception (Robin and Wagtail Class). The EYFS profile is a statutory assessment of children’s development at the end of the early years foundation stage in relation to the early learning goals (ELGs). Children are defined as having reached a Good Level of Development (GLD) if they have achieved the expected level for the ELGs in the prime areas of learning and the specific areas of mathematics and literacy.

Phonics Screening Check (PSC)

The Phonics Screening Check (PSC) is completed by all Year 1 pupils nationally. It comprises of a list of 40 words that children read one-to-one with a teacher. The test is a combination of both real and ‘made up’ non-words (called ‘Alien Words’) which rely purely on using phonics to decode rather than a child having memorised a familiar word.

Multiplication Tables Check (MTC)

The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether a child can fluently recall their times tables up to 12. The MTC is an on-screen check consisting of 25 times table questions. Pupils have 6 seconds to answer each question. The DfE currently reports on the number of pupils achieving 25/25, and the average score.

Alder Grove will undertake its first MTC in the academic year 2024-2025.

End of Key Stage 2 attainment

End of KS2 assessments are taken at the end of Year 6. Reading, Maths and Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (GPS) are assessed via nationally-administered tests. Writing and Science are teacher assessments, based on tests, book work, class observation and other factors. Schools are also selected randomly for moderation for Writing by the local authority, our Trust conduct moderation and we conduct internal moderation as well to ensure that results are accurate.

Alder Grove will undertake its first Key Stage 2 assessments in the academic year 2026-2027.

Historic Performance Data

Due to the school opening in September 2020, currently, we do not have a Year 6 cohort and therefore no historic DfE Key Stage Two data. Our first Year Six cohort will be 2026-2027.
